Tibet Film Archive director Tenzin Phuntsog has released never-before-seen clips of Tibet, dating between 1939 and 1959. Phuntsog discovered the footage in an old trunk, while looking through the film collection at the Office of Tibet, in New York. This video from TIME Magazine shows clips of the footage and an interview with Phuntsog. Watch more of the clips below, including lost footage of the Dalai Lama presenting on his Geshe Exam, which Phuntsog describes as “the equivalent of a PhD disseration,” and images of Nazi scientists studying the Tibetan people.
