Lion’s Roar reports on the upcoming release of the Burmese pro-democracy political leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
Could it be?
We’ve heard the “Aung San Suu Kyi is about to be released” story before. (For example, in February of this year.) But the buzz, this time, seems somehow much bigger — and far more hopeful.
As the Associate Press reports:
“Supporters of the pro-democracy leader in Myanmar, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, gathered near her home on Friday as unconfirmed reports circulated that she would be released soon from house arrest.[… ] Supporters of the pro-democracy leader in Myanmar, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, gathered near her home on Friday as unconfirmed reports circulated that she would be released soon from house arrest.”

There’s plenty of reason to be skeptical, sure. And yet, Aung San Suu Kyi’s release does seem closer than ever.
