Lion’s Roar has four summer positions for youth at our offices in Halifax, Canada. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and between the ages of 15 and 30.

Data Analyst Assistant
As one of a few youth working with Lion’s Roar magazine and Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Quarterly this summer you’ll be engaged in relevant work on a number of publishing fronts.
What will I be doing?
- Refining the company analytics dashboard
- Researching online learning, live streaming, and crowdsourcing best practices
- Using statistical methods to analyze data and generate business reports
- Identifying and recommending new ways to streamline business processes
- Using data to create models that depict trends in the customer base and the consumer population as a whole
- Working with departmental managers to outline the specific data needs for each business method analysis project

Digital Editorial Assistant
As one of a few youth working with Lion’s Roar magazine and Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Quarterly this summer you’ll be engaged in work on a variety of editorial fronts.
The participant will work closely with the digital editorial team on every aspect of modern publishing. They will research, interview, transcribe, fact check, edit and proofread. They will collaborate with seasoned editors on pitching, scripting and executing sharply focused digital content of all kinds for our audiences on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and AV platforms. They will perform work in the related areas of permissions requests, review copy ordering, complimentary issue requests, and art department support.
What will I be doing and what skills do I need?
- Mining archives for potential content, content providers, and story ideas
- Assisting with LionsRoar.com on basic SEO and site cleanup
- Uploading magazines and creating ToCs in preparation for digital offering
- Transcribing and entering data
- Contributing to e-newsletters
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Sourcing images for online use
- Producing social media
- Digital, audio, and video editing for web and online platforms
- Experience with basic web language (HTML)
- Independent problem-solving, critical thinking, and writing
- Adaptability
- Attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
- Interpersonal skills

Marketing Assistant
As one of a few youth working with Lion’s Roar magazine and Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Quarterly you’ll be engaged in work on a several publishing fronts.
The marketing assistant will help the LR audience development team reach its target audience and sell LR products. The participant will learn and contribute to positioning products in front of the target audience using strategic messaging that raises brand awareness and ultimately generates traffic and sales, employing both print and digital efforts across a variety of platforms and mediums
What will I be doing and what skills do I need?

- Contributing to e-newsletters
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Creation of consumer surveys/questionnaires
- Campaign tracking, SEO keyword planning, tracking site visitor numbers, reviewing campaign metrics and conversions
- Producing social media
- Providing support to the advertising department: Web research, lead generation, mass-outreach campaign
- Assist with subscription offer research, report on subscription-offer strategies, sample marketing language.
- Data clean-up of online store, assist with order fulfillment and new-product sourcing
- Communications: writing, storytelling, images
- Basic spreadsheet and analytics knowledge
- Critical thinking and problem-solving
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines

As one of a few youth working with Lion’s Roar magazine and Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Quarterly this summer you’ll be engaged in work on a variety of editorial fronts.
The print editorial assistant position presents a multi-faceted foray into present day magazine and online journalism. The participant will work closely with our editors on everything from fact-checking and transcribing to research and writing, proofreading, working with authors, writing headlines, to developing audience engagement strategies. Participants will focus on our flagship bi-monthly print magazine, Lion’s Roar, and support the production of digital content.
What will I be doing?
- Mining archives for potential content providers and story ideas
- Transcribing audio to text
- Contributing to e-newsletters
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Uploading magazines and creating ToCs in preparation for digital offering
- Obtaining permissions from publishers for book excerpts
