As Religion News Service reports, Soka Gakkai International (SGI) president Daisaku Ikeda has issued “The Global Solidarity of Youth: Ushering in a New Era of Hope,” his 35th annual peace proposal. Among its theme is Ikeda’s faith in the power of young people to create change in their communities amidst global challenges such as the refugee crisis, armed conflict, global warming, and nuclear weapons. “Young people and their energetic engagement represent the solution to the global challenges we face,” he writes. He also cites youth as the key to achieving the United Nations’ (UN) “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
The proposal also calls for increased efforts towards building a culture of human rights, the cultivation of friendships that transcend religious and ethnic differences, and stresses the need for nuclear disarmament and for gender equality around the world.
The full proposal will be available in English onlibe via SGI’s website on February 16.
