Keido Fukushima Roshi, retired Abbot of the Rinzai Zen temple Tofukuj, passed away on March 1, his 78th birthday.
Fukushima Roshi was well known in the Western community as well as in the East. Several prominent teachers have studied under him, including Jeff Shore, Kuzan Peter Schireson, and Myoan Grace Schireson,
Throughout his final years, Fukushima Roshi suffered from Parkinson’s disease. He retired as Abbot on October, 22, 2009, and was succeeded by his student and Dharma heir, Harada Jien Roshi.
