Rex Tillerson, the freshly confirmed US Secretary of State, “has responded favorably” to questions posed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about Tibet, the Central Tibetan Administration reports.
Among Tillerson’s comments, the report says, are affirmations that “he considers the issues of religious freedom of Christians, Tibetan Buddhist, Uygyur Muslims, Falun Gong practitioners as high priority;” that “he will continue to encourage dialogue between Beijing and Representatives of Tibet’s “Government in Exile” and/or the Dalai Lama; that he would commit to meeting with His Holiness, and that he will encourage all governments “to respect and preserve the distinct religious, linguistic, and cultural identity of the Tibetan people worldwide.”
