The lay and monastic sangha of Plum Village, led by Vietnamese Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, dreams of skillfully bringing together technology and mindfulness.
Thich Nhat Hanh, or Thay as he is affectionately known, has a vision of a Plum Village mindfulness app that would combine the very best of technology with the best aspects of mindfulness practice.
He and his sangha have sought to plant the seeds of mindfulness in Silicon Valley through their visits to Google starting in 2011 and at a gathering of leading technology CEOs in 2013.
To help manifest Thay’s vision of a Plum Village mindfulness app, the sangha has announced a 5-day residential retreat at the Mercy Center in Burlingame, California from October 11-16. The retreat is for software developers, designers, project managers, experienced practitioners and an international delegation of monastics.
Participants are invited to bring their laptops. In addition to regular retreat practices such as sitting and walking meditation and dharma talks, there will be mindful work opportunities, such as coding and designing mindfulness apps.
Space is limited to 50 participants, plus 10-15 monastics. Registration, which is open now, includes tuition, lodging and vegetarian meals.
