From Lynne Whittemore, Executive Director of Cambridge Insight Meditation Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, comes this announcement on the retirement of CIMC guiding teacher Michael Grady, issued Thursday afternoon:
[…] Michael Grady has recently finalized a decision to retire from the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. Michael will be leaving CIMC at the end of January. He has asked that we not organize a farewell party or other big event in his honor. Please join Larry, Narayan, the CIMC Board and me in accepting, honoring and respecting Michael’s decision. Join us, as well, in appreciation of his many years at CIMC as a Guiding Teacher, colleague, and friend.
Michael has been a central figure at CIMC for over two decades, introducing countless people to insight meditation through Way of Awareness and other courses. For more than 20 years, CIMC yogis have been guided by his teachings in interviews, practice groups, and informal conversations. His dharma talks have deepened our practice, as have the workshops and benefits he has offered our community. Behind the scenes, he has helped lead and direct our Center’s evolution from its early days to the current plans to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Michael’s departure is a change for CIMC, a reminder of the truth of the Buddha’s teaching on impermanence. If you would like the opportunity to get together with Michael before he leaves, he will be here next Tuesday, January 27th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Feel free to join him in the Teachers’ Room on the second floor. If you wish to write Michael a card or note, just send it to his attention at the CIMC office.
CIMC is located at 331 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02139.
